When Americans rang in the new year in 2020, most had heard little about a mysterious virus with pneumonia-like symptoms sickening — and killing — people in Wuhan, China.

A recent study found that nearly one third (31 percent) of the world’s adult population do not meet the global recommendations of at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week. Alarmingly, this is an increase of 5 percentage points between 2010 and 2022.
