When Jae’da Turner founded Black Owned Bos., she didn’t intend it to become what it is today. In 2019, she wanted to create a space to amplify Black-owned small businesses in Boston and a way for locals and transplants alike to discover those businesses easily.

The Seaport neighborhood officially became one Black-owned restaurant richer this week. Chef Olrie Roberts, owner of ZaZ Restaurant in Hyde Park, continues his expansion with ZaZiBar, an energetic bar and bites concept with a menu rooted in Caribbean flavors.

Nia Grace, owner of Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen in Roxbury, opens a vibrant, glamorous jazz club and restaurant in the Seaport this week in collaboration with Big Night.

Major real estate development projects are moving forward before Mayor Michelle Wu has made good on her campaign promise to break apart the Boston Planning and Development agency, separating the city’s planning function from the agency, which manages the approval process for large real estate projects.
