A clearly perturbed and perplexed President Biden demanded that Congress take action to toughen gun controls. Biden made the demand after yet another round of what has now become near ritual in America. That is mass shootings.

The NRA’s money and influence and the saber-rattling of gun control opponents are only part of the reason that tougher gun control laws, no matter how many heartbreaking massacres occur, always face a tough fight. Gun ownership is a fact of American life and a rigidly protected constitutional right.

Racist propaganda asserts that Blacks are responsible for the violence in America, but the evidence refutes that. Indeed, some whites are undoubtedly fearful of violent retribution from Blacks because of slavery, segregation and racial discrimination. However, there has been no united vengeance attack by Blacks against whites.

The U.S. Supreme Court now has a case before it to determine whether a state law restricting the right to carry a gun violates an individual’s privileges under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
