Medicare

Historically, Black Americans have largely been shut out of America’s healthcare system, first as patients, then as professionals. This was due in large part to a variety of long-standing institutional and systematic bigotry that has taken place over many years.

Medicare’s open enrollment period, which extends from October 15 to December 7, allows participants to choose plans for the following year.

New Medicare cards are scheduled to be delivered to participating residents of Massachusetts sometime this month. The new cards use a unique identifying number instead of one’s social security number to help reduce fraud and abuse.
