U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona visited Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology (BFIT) Friday to celebrate the school’s model of teaching, which focuses on partnering with collaboration with other educational institutions.

At a press conference Monday, Mayor Martin Walsh and Congressman Stephen Lynch discussed how President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package will help Boston recover from the pandemic. The recovery, Walsh says, is just beginning, but the damage done by the pandemic is “long-lasting.”

A coalition of minority business advocates filed a complaint against the city of Boston Monday, alleging that the city discriminates against Black and Latino-owned businesses in its $2.1 billion in annual contracting.

With the seven-day average of active COVID-19 cases reaching 4,490 in early December according to the city’s dashboard, Mayor Martin Walsh said his goals are to get students back to school, find ways to support restaurants through the winter and increase COVID testing.

District 4 City Councilor Andrea Campbell announced her campaign for mayor last Thursday. She will run against at-large Councilor Michelle Wu, who announced her campaign on Sept.15, and Mayor Martin Walsh, if he announces a campaign.
