Harvard basketball

Upon learning that the Lady Crimson of Harvard had won their first Ivy League Tournament basketball title in school history, my thoughts shifted back to an exclusive interview with team star Harmoni Turner for the Nov. 21 edition of the Bay State Banner.

In a basketball season that has produced far too few highlight moments for the Harvard men’s program compared to the spectacular results by the women’s program, a pinnacle moment was reached at the Lavietes Pavillion on Saturday, as both teams recorded significant victories.

I first met Tommy Amaker, Harvard’s men’s basketball coach, while he was a player at Duke University in the 1980s. He and backcourt mate Johnny Dawkins drove Duke’s rise to national prominence under a young coach named Mike Krzyzewski.
