Artist Sarah Brophy reimagines the risks of climate change as colorful antagonists in “Climate Monsters,” a virtual reality installation outside the Boston Children’s Museum on the city’s waterfront.

Each summer, throngs of people head to Boston’s downtown waterfront to kayak, sail or relax along the water. But many in Boston’s Black and brown communities often feel cut off from the city’s shores.

As part of increasing efforts to make Boston Harbor and the waterfront accessible, non-profit organization Boston Harbor Now has released a robust event schedule for the summer, centered on welcoming people of all backgrounds and creating unique experiences on the water.

On Monday, August 27, Boston Harbor Now will host the Mattapan Community Cruise, a free harbor cruise for all Mattapan residents. The community cruise initiative is just one of several ways Boston Harbor Now is working to make the harbor and its programming more accessible.
