This weekend marks the first anniversary of the unveiling of the sculpture “The Embrace,” by artist Hank Willis Thomas and MASS Design Group.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company presents “Macbeth” in its annual Free Shakespeare on the Common production. On stage July 19 through Aug. 6, the play transforms the grassy knoll near the Parkman Bandstand into a spectacle of intrigue and violence driven by a powerful pair hungry for still more power.

“The Embrace,” a sculptural monument by artist Hank Willis Thomas and MASS Design Group honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, brings a new and dynamic piece of public art to Boston’s portfolio of straightforward statues.

A striking monument to the love of civil rights icons Coretta Scott King and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. — years in the making — was unveiled on the Boston Common last Friday during a landmark event celebrating the full history and culture of Black Boston.

One of the Western canon’s most famous romances, and tragedies, “Romeo and Juliet” takes the stage on Boston Common August 11 and 13. The free, public performances produced by Boston Lyric Opera in partnership with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) and the City of Boston aim to bring the city together under the stars to celebrate the art of drama.

On July 21, the Boston Common will once again come alive with the sounds of live theater. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) will stage “The Tempest” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Free Shakespeare On the Common.
