After raising NBA Championship Banner No. 18, the most in NBA History, the Boston Celtics opened their 2024-25 regular season campaign by making a team record twenty-nine three-point shots enroute to their 132-109 victory over the New York Knickerbockers at the T.D. Bank Garden.

On Monday, Mayor Michelle Wu joined Jeannine Russell, Gov. Maura Healey, other state and local officials, and Celtics leadership and players to rename the North Washington Street Bridge the William Felton “Bill” Russell Bridge, in honor of NBA legend and civil rights activist Bill Russell.   

While the Boston Celtics bask in the glow of NBA Championship number 18, the National Basketball Association Draft ushered in a new generation of players on June 26 at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Boston spirit was high on Friday, June 21, with over one million rowdy fans celebrating Banner 18. It was an environment like no other. The energy, the excitement, the vigor, and the passion from Celtic fans was evident.

For a record 18th time, the Boston Celtics are the champions of the National Basketball Association. Those words are echoed loud and clear throughout professional sports following the team’s 106-88 demolition of the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, June 17.

Following convincing victories in the first two games of this year’s National Basketball Association’s best of seven Championship Finals, the Boston Celtics find themselves just two wins away from raising title banner number 18 to the rafters of the TD Bank Garden.

It now appears that the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks are headed for the National Basketball Association’s best-of-championship series. 

Since her recent WNBA debut, the Caitlin Clark phenomenon continues to impact the league, with the trickle-down effect of her presence raising viewership and marketability.

With the play-in games behind us, the National Basketball Association now steps into the more serious stage of its postseason competition.

Friday’s Boston Celtics win over the Charlotte Hornets at TD Garden was a sweet victory for the team, and a big moment of celebration for another group of basketball players, too.
