Berklee College of Music has seen some of music’s biggest talents come through its doors. While DJ and producer Jazzy Jeff did not attend Berklee, he has crossed paths with many of the college’s former students.

Country music is having its moment. With the release of Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” record, Shaboozey’s chart-topping single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, and Sabrina Carpenter’s roots-inspired “Slim Pickins,” the genre appears to be at the forefront of pop culture, with various artists embracing its sound. But its history is often overlooked.

Grammy award-winning jazz musician Nicholas Payton was recently appointed chair of Berklee College of Music Brass Department.

Berklee College of Music is celebrating the cultural past and present of New Orleans with an eclectic evening of song, dance and instrumentation on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center.

Boston musicians are a big presence at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, to be held on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. Faculty and alumni from the city’s two world-class institutions of musical education abound. 

Berklee has appointed Dr. Lacretia Johnson Flash as the senior vice president for DEI, community, campus culture, and climate.

The vibrant musical curriculum of Berklee College of Music is taking to new shores.

Singer and songwriter Dee Dee Bridgewater and Berklee College of Music Associate Professor Shirazette Tinnin are collaborating on a one-time-only performance on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Red Room at Cafe 939.

As part of the rededication ceremony for the 54th Massachusetts Regiment Memorial on the Boston Common, Berklee College of Music Professor Julius P. Williams composed a song celebrating the monument.

Saxophonist, composer and Berklee College of Music Professor Tia Fuller is well known as being the model for the character of Dorothea Williams in the Pixar movie “Soul.” As a performer, she has toured with Beyoncé and Esperanza Spaulding; as an academic, she works with youth to tap into their strengths. Her most recent recording, with Mack Records, is “Diamond Cut.” The Banner caught up with Fuller last week.

Berklee College of Music has named Natara Gray as the first assistant dean of Admissions, Diversity and Inclusion Recruitment.
