Restoration of William Smith Apartments

Invitation to Bid

Commonwealth Land Trust, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, the Awarding Authority, request bids for restoration of brick and brownstone masonry including cleaning, repointing and rebuilding; slate roof restoration including replacing loose and missing slate, installation of new copper gutter and downspout, and new step flashing at tower and chimney, at the William Smith Apartments at 42 Hammond Street in Boston, Massachusetts which is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

The project is being partially funded with a grant from the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund through the Massachusetts Historical Commission. All work must be performed in accordance with the documents prepared by DREAM Collaborative (31 St. James Street, Boston, MA 02116 (617)606-7029) and Building Conservation Associates, Inc. (10 Langley Road, Newton, MA 02459, 617.916.5661) and meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. State law prohibits discrimination. Awarding of this contract is subject to Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity guidelines.

A pre-bid meeting will be held at the William Smith Apartments at 42 Hammond Street, Boston, MA on November 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM.

Bids shall be evaluated on the basis of price, previous experience with similar types of construction projects, ability to perform the work in a timely manner, and references. All bids must be delivered to the architect’s office at the above address prior to December 15, 2021 at 12:00 PM to be eligible for consideration. All grant funded work must be completed by June 15, 2022.
