Walter Joe Bass | February 27, 1932 – March 10, 2021, Boston, MA

Born to Emma Norman Bass Sallee and Elvin Bass in Columbia, MO, Joe Bass or “Unca Jo,” as he was affectionately known lived life to the fullest and departed this life on his own terms.

He was a Renaissance man, a visionary, a community servant, a philanthropist, a former Marine, an excellent cook, a gardener and an entrepreneur (proprietor of The Colonial later known as Walter Jo’s, Marla’s Parlor, and Jo’s Jaguar). He was a loving partner and husband to Carole for more than 26 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather and a friend to many. He loved the beach and visited St. Croix and Martha’s Vineyard, as often as he could. As his final gift, Joe donated his body to Harvard Medical School.

At Joe’s request, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. We will honor him by “Celebrating a Life Well Lived” at a date to be determined, due to the pandemic.

The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of prayers and  sentiments during this time.

“Those we love never leave us for their beautiful memories are imprinted in our hearts forever.”
