Merrill Helena Greaves Gumes February 6, 1931 – March 15, 2019
A child of Mrs. Sylvina Greaves and Alexander Greaves.
Born and raised in Boston. Merrill graduated from Brighton High School. She went on to study at Massachusetts Memorial School of Nursing graduating September 6, 1952. She went on to work for Boston University Hospital as a. RN and ultimately as a nurse for Boston City Schools. Merrill was the youngest of 7 children. Sister to Maria, Sylvia, Sarah, Doris, Conrad and Alexander.
She is survived by her children Peter Alexander Greaves Gumes, Lauren Janine Oselette, sister Sylvia Bowden and grandson Nicholas Oselette. Multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
Merrill had incredible strength to overcome obstacles and reach new heights.
She accomplished both her Bachelors and Masters degrees while raising 2 children and working full time. She worked for the Boston City School District until she retired in 2001. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading, knitting and embroidery. She had a great sense of humor never missing a beat. If you needed someone to hear you and understand, Merrill was your girl.
