Margaret Elizabeth Jemmott, died on December 9, 2023, peacefully of natural causes. She was 97.

Margaret E. (Richards) Jemmott was born June 9, 1926 in Cambridge, MA to Letitia and Cornelius Richards. Margaret grew up in Cambridge where she started working at Raytheon at a young age to help her Mom care for the rest of the family. Margaret married Donald Jemmott in 1950 and together they raised three daughters. In 1964 Margaret and Donald built a home in Falmouth. Margaret was familiar with Falmouth having spent lots of time over the summer in Falmouth with girlfriends when growing up and her husband had family in Falmouth. Margaret lived in the home she and her husband built until last year when she moved to Atria. She enjoyed her apartment, her freedom and the Atria community. How many people move into their own apartment at age 96? She cared for herself until the end. Over the last year you would often find her sitting in the lobby of Atria. The family called her the Mayor of the Lobby. Margaret knew lots of people in Falmouth from her many years working at the Coonamessett Inn and the Falmouth Hospital. Margaret worked well into her 70’s. She enjoyed many friendships from her years of exercising at Gloria Stevens, Curves and the Falmouth Sports Center where she worked out until well into her 90’s.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Denise Jordan and her husband Samuel of Boston, Diane Jemmott and her husband Rod Burfield of Falmouth, and Margaret Jemmott of Virginia; grandsons Jamaal Jordan (Mara) of Washington, DC and Rashad Jordan (Nicole) of Maryland; sister, Letitia Benders; great grandchildren Knight, Roxy and Sergeant Jordan, many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She predeceased by her husband Donald Jemmott to whom she enjoyed 58 years of marriage, her sisters Frances (Richards) Burrell, Constance (Richards) Yee, Winifred (Douglas) Rivers and brother Raymond Douglas.

Margaret loved Falmouth and Falmouth loved her back. She was a wise woman who shared her wisdom freely. At Margaret’s request burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, financial contributions in memory of Margaret can be made to her favorite charities The Fighting Blindness Foundation P.O. Box 45740 Baltimore, MD 21297 for online contributions http://donate.fightingblindness.org/donate, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O.
