Overview
The Lyric Stage Company of Boston, the city’s oldest resident theater company, seeks a Box Office Manager. The successful candidate will understand how to support our guests at the theater, maintain a collaborative environment for the box office staff, and work closely with administration to achieve goals.

About the position
The Box Office Manager will energetically and joyfully join the Lyric Stage’s eight- person staff. They will take charge of day-to-day box office activities and manage the Box Office and Front of House staff. The position requires strong computer and operational skills, customer service, and attention to detail. They will work closely with Marketing to build, roll out, seat and organize each season’s Subscriptions and Membership tiers.

Details:
Hours: 40/hours per week; Lyric Stage is a live theatre company and occasional nights and weekends are required. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday 12pm to 5pm. Given the unique hours of the venue and this role, The Box Office/Front of House Manager will work hours mutually agreed upon to oversee weekday box office operations, with some evening and weekend hours being required.

Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Box Office and Front of House Staff and Work Study students from Emerson College (between 15 – 20 part-time individuals).

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Management of the box office, including processing and accounting daily ticket revenue via phone, walk-up, and website sales.
  • Resolve guest requests and maintain guest records.
  • Manage inventory and payment for discount ticket vendors (ArtsBoston, etc.) and discounted groups.
  • With Marketing, manage the annual subscription campaign (sales, seating, printing, mailing) and Membership campaign.
  • Hire, train, and supervise Box Office and Front of House employees.
  • Participate in Opening Nights, special events, fundraisers, and relevant meetings.
  • Promote excellence in guest service, and develop and maintain a friendly and positive box office environment for patrons and employees.
  • Work closely with staff in other departments to support overall operations of the theater.
  • Create and maintain schedules for the Box Office and Front of House staff.
  • Keep track of End of Day Reports and report Income data accordingly to the General Manager.
  • Submit hours for Box Office and Front of House employees weekly.
  • Work with Marketing to pull relevant reports as needed.
  • Update the Front of House checklists as needed.
  • Promote excellence in guest service, and develop and maintain a friendly and positive front of house environment for patrons and employees.

Qualifications:

Take initiative and pay great attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
Box office experience, particularly experience with Patron Manager and/or Salesforce software, is preferred.
Have excellent communications, computer, and people management skills.
Performing arts experience is an asset.

 

Salary and benefits
In addition to a starting salary of $40,000 the Lyric Stage offers two weeks paid vacation, pays 60% of the employee’s individual health care plan, and participates in an employee retirement plan with up to 3% of contributions matched. The Box Office & Front of House Manager position is full time, non-exempt.
