Whittier Street Health Center’s Gospel Concert
Grammy-Award Winning Gospel artist Dr. Bobby Jones hosted Whittier Street Health Center’s 11th Annual International Gospel Benefit Concert to benefit the work and mission of Whittier. Reverend Ellis I. Washington, Senior Pastor of Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church of Boston and Latoyia Edwards, New England Cable News Anchor (not in attendance) received the “Saving of the Health Community Award” from Frederica Williams, President and CEO of Whittier Street Health Center for their demonstrated community leadership and commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in Boston and New England. Reverend Washington, a native of Detroit, Michigan, became an ordained Elder at the age of 19 in the Michigan Annual Conference of the Fourth Episcopal District of the AME Church and is now a servant of Boston. He is a community leader, radio personality, freelance commercial voice talent, a sought after public speaker and a servant of God. Edwards, a native of Dorchester, MA, a NECN anchor also regularly participates on WGBH’s Basic Black’s live TV program, which focuses on news, events, and topics that impact the black community locally and nationally. She connects with youth and schoolchildren to deliver her message of determination, hope and success.
