Roving Camera 8-15-19: How do you think the city should respond to the opiate crisis?
Now that it’s important to everyone,
open up the Long Island shelter
again so people aren’t sleeping in
the streets. Narcan is not an answer. — Traci McCallum, Medical Admin. Specialist, Roxbury
Clean it up and stop letting people
bring it over here. It’s too much. — Linda Hollins, Self-employed, Dorchester
I think they should put them in a
camp and make them go cold turkey. — Leon Beverly, Self-employed, Roxbury
When it was black folk, they didn’t
care. Now they do. They need to find
facilities for people and get them
off heroin. People need help getting
back into the real world. I know it
costs money. — Preston Nichols, Retired, Roxbury
I don’t think what we’re doing now
is working. They need to be taken
off the street. It’s a public health
crisis. Hospitals need to get more
involved. — Leslie Murphy, Literacy Coach, Roxbury
I think there needs to be more
rehab programs for addicts who are
suffering. It is an illness. But there
also has to be consideration for the
common man — for their safety. — Treena Hogan, Paraprofessional, Hyde Park
