On Saturday, July 27, Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino joined the family of TreVaugh Mathews to cut the ribbon of the brand new playground at Almont Park in Mattapan.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s “Cool Down” event was a hit at Howes Playground in Roxbury on July 16. Residents enjoyed free ice cream from the Boston Police Department, played chess at a workshop hosted by the Boston Parks Department, and ran in and out of the water spray. Posing for this photo were Elio Lopes, Jaiveon Gonsalves, Treyvon Wilder, and Justin Barrow.
On Wednesday, July 24, Governor Patrick attended a special reception for Senator William "Mo" Cowan at the Museum of African American History. Former Senator Cowan was appointed to the senate by Governor Patrick to fill the open US Senate position vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry.
Two new warthogs, sisters Alani and Kananu, have moved into an exhibit space next to Serengeti Crossing at the Franklin Park Zoo. The sisters are the first warthogs on display at the zoo since 2010, when the last warthog, Priscilla, died at the age of 18.

Officer Sandy Woodley gave advice to the more than fifty young people gathered at the Roxbury YMCA for an interactive Listening Session with youth hosted by Boston Mayoral Candidate Charlotte Golar Richie on Saturday. The purpose of the session was to hear what young people have to say and offer suggestions to them about ways to be proactive in their communities.
