ABCD Foster Grandparent Program Celebrates 49 Years. 158 Foster Grandparents ranging in age from 55 to 90 honored at brunch in Dorchester. Foster Grandparents are mature volunteers over the age of 55 who spend 20 hours a week tutoring and supporting children in public schools, Head Start, and health centers in Boston and Quincy.The program is funded through the Federal Corporation for National Community Service. Grandparents receive a small stipend and their transportation costs are reimbursed by the program. This critically needed stipend helps low-income seniors provide for their basic needs while maintaining their quality of life and an independent lifestyle.
