More than 350 people from the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, downtown and beyond gathered on November 8th at UMASS Boston to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI). DSNI is known for its transformative work with resident led community economic development, including the use of land trusts and eminent domain to build and sustain affordable housing. Among those in attendance at the sold out fundraising gala were Boston Mayor Marty Walshand Boston’s Economic Chief John Barros, one of three former executive directors of DSNI who were there to celebrate the milestone. Gus Newport, former Mayor of Berkeley California and Rogelio Whittington were the other former DSNI chiefs at the celebration.
