Boston Scenes 10-24-19: Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center celebrates 50 years in style
Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center celebrated its 50th anniversary with a sold out gala on October 4, 2019 at The Exchange on Boston’s waterfront with a host of community leaders, patients, corporate and human service supporters and staff. President and CEO, Stan McLaren and Board Chair Bonnie Brathwaite gave impassioned speeches about the health center mentioning their plans to increase the center’s level of care and footprint with an expansion that includes a new health center and affordable housing at its Dorchester central building. Several leaders were honored for their role in advancing Harvard Street over the past 50 years, while celebrating with those who are committed to its future growth. Honorees included: first Executive Director E. Lorraine Baugh with the President’s Award, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross with the Trailblazer Award; two past CEO’s were recognized Allen Ball and Charley Murphy; and Athenahealth Co-founder Jonathan Bush who closed the program out by leading an auction from the podium which raised nearly $60,000 to support Harvard Street! A special award was given to Harvard Street from both the Massachusetts and National Association of Community Health Centers.
