The Life and Times of Art Blakey: His Message Lives On with Bill Pierce and John Ramsay

The Association of Black Citizens Lexington (ABCL) is celebrating the Life and Times of legendary Jazz Musician Art Blakey, one of the world’s most influential and prolific Black artists. He along with his band: Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, created music that spans generations. Art, himself, recorded over 400 records and was a lifelong mentor. His life spanned the growth of jazz music, through the heyday of the music form and into its “re-birth” in the 1980s.

Who was the man behind the drum kit? Your guide for this memorable experience will be Yawu Miller, editor of the Bay State Banner and nephew of the late great Art Blakey. You’ll enjoy the magic of Blakey’s music and discover more about the legends career with musicians who played with Blakey: Billy Pierce and John Ramsay.
