Stop & Shop Hosts Community Health and Wellness Fair at Grove Hall Store to Promote Healthy Living and Empower Residents

**** The event will be a free community gathering featuring health and wellness resources, food, and fun activities for kids***

Stop & Shop is excited to host a Community Health and Wellness Fair at its Grove Hall store, located at 460 Blue Hill Ave, on Friday, August 16, from 11am to 3pm. The event will feature over a dozen locally based businesses and organizations covering various health and wellness categories. The day will consist of activities including kids’ entertainment, nutrition education and Healthy Eating on a Budget Supermarket Tours. Attendees can also benefit from health screenings, giveaways, and movement clinics with Black Girls Run and Black Men Run, two organizations dedicated to fostering a community of inclusion and unity and helping to improve health outcomes.

This event embodies Stop & Shop’s broader mission to educate and empower customers and their families to make healthier food choices and lead healthier lives.

Stop & Shop Registered Dietitians will be available to offer nutrition education and resources. Stop by their table to “Spin to Win” for swag bags, coupons, and more. The first fifteen participants for each supermarket tour will receive a gift card. Additionally, Samaritans and the BMC Community Behavioral Health Center will provide mental health advice, while  the Harvard Family Van will offer blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure checks and resources from Tufts Dental School.

Children will enjoy a range of fun and engaging activities, including art projects with sparc! The Artmobile and story time with the Grove Hall library focused on healthy eating and food growth. For those interested in weight loss, there will be information about various programs and free gym passes available courtesy of Healthworks Community Fitness. Attendees can also sample free beverages and snacks from the Stop & Shop truck and enjoy music from DJ Kitz and a meal from our local restaurant Jamaica Mi Hungry. Relaxation options include massages from Imani Massage and relaxing chair yoga exercises from 4 Corners Yoga + Wellness from 1:30-2:00 PM.

“We wanted to create an event that connects our neighbors with the right wrap-around healthcare services that fit their health and wellness needs,” said

Christine Sinclair, RD, LDN, Stop & Shop Nutrition Partner at Grove Hall. “Our goal is to provide tangible resources to the community that will empower people on their journey to better health.”

According to data from the Boston Public Health Commission, the Grove Hall area faces high rates of nutrition-related chronic conditions and food insecurity. This presents an opportunity for Stop & Shop to contribute to healthier outcomes through targeted food-driven wellness initiatives. Approximately 15.8% of residents in Roxbury suffer from food insecurity, with 17.3% in Dorchester. Additionally, 33.1% of Roxbury residents and 34.5% of Dorchester residents are SNAP recipients.

This event aims to address health disparities, food insecurity, and chronic conditions through a range of health and wellness activities, focusing on the major social determinants of health, including economic stability, education access, healthcare access, neighborhood environment, and social support.
