The Shaw 54th: Restoring the Memorial and the Dialogue on Race

JOIN US as we celebrate the next stage of the important multi-million restoration project to reconstruct the Memorial. This undertaking plays a vital role in the continuing dialogue about the fight for equal rights and social justice in Boston, and as we restore the Memorial, we encourage interpretive programming by organizations to educate all about the Memorial’s place in the artistic, social, and political life of America.

Positioned strategically on Boston Common opposite the Massachusetts State House, the Shaw 54th Regiment Memorial is at the heart of a powerful narrative that unfolds along Boston’s Black Heritage Trail. The restoration of the Shaw 54th coincides with the solemn year-long commemoration of the 400th anniversary of slavery in North America.
