Sailing + Science: A Day on the Charles River for Roxbury/Dorchester Families/Friends

What is Sailing + Science? The program is a fun, free day of on-the-water and on-land activities on the Charles River for residents of Roxbury and Dorchester and their families and friends! Sail with an instructor (no experience necessary, do not need to know how to swim), visit the Museum of Science, picnic, explore, and learn more about what the Charles River has to offer you.

  • Sailing on the Charles River at Community Boating (sail with staff, lifejackets provided, all ages, no experience necessary, do not need to know how to swim)
  • Visit the Museum of Science (Museum passes will be available for registered participants upon check-in; they can be used on 6/11 or for a later date)
  • Picnic (picnic lunch provided) and relax at public spaces along the Charles River
  • Explore the Charles River Esplanade (20 minute walk between Community Boston and the Museum of Science) and learn about the health benefits of the waterfront
  • Learn more about cool public spaces, climate change, and what the Charles River waterfront has to offer you
  • Ride the free shuttle from Roxbury (Roxbury Branch BPL) or Dorchester (Grove Hall) or use public transportation (close to Red Line Charles/MGH stop, 2-trip MBTA fare cards available at program)
