IS THIS AMERICA?

A Free Music Event about Voting Rights

Celebrating the life and legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer

IS THIS AMERICA? tells the story of the great African American voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, who despite intimidation and threats of death, successfully advocated for the registration of Black voters in her home state of Mississippi and throughout the entire country. IS THIS AMERICA? presents the extraordinary similarities between Ms. Hamer’s struggles in the 1960’s to modern day legislative efforts to hinder Black and other BIPOC voters from casting their vote. This exciting new work takes place at the historic Strand Theatre and features a cast of acclaimed singers, a live orchestra, sets, and costumes.
