GMNC MONTHLY VIRTUAL MEETING | Guests: President Kim Janey Boston | Kristen Halbert, YPN Urban League of Boston

Please join the Greater Mattapan Neighborhood Council (GMNC) for our Monthly Meeting via Zoom Virtual Meeting. This meeting will also be streamed live on Facebook.  At this month’s meeting, our first guest speaker is Boston City Council President Kim Janey. The discussion will focus on equity will be addressed in the City’s 2021 budget on issues from education, housing, environment, and the City’s vendor Contracts.Our second speaker will be Kristen Halbert, Acting President of the YPN (Young Professionals Network) Urban League of Boston. The discussion will focus on the importance of young people becoming involved in both local and state elections as well as following the State’s legislation. As of 12.28.2020, we still do not have an approved State budget.

Equity is part of the building blocks of resilience and sustainability. We cannot afford to be bystanders to decisions that are made in our names. The continuing pandemic will require us to be more humane, kinder, and more thoughtful in every way. There can be no celebration of a new year if we are not requiring that a cohesive system (health, education, housing, transportation, roads, employment, and protection of open space) be built that encourages strategies that do not displace current residents, protecting natural areas, and facilitating connections to the surrounding communities.
