The word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to yoke’, or ‘to unite’. Yoga is a discipline intended to unite the mind, body, and spirit, and chakras came to the West through the tradition and practice of yoga. The chakra system is a seven-leveled philosophical model of the universe that’s intended to raise awareness. Each chakra is said to govern a particular aspect of life and its infinite potential. In the chakra system, all things can be understood in relation to where energy is expressed or repressed.

In this series, we will explore each of the seven chakras through brief presentations, fun written exercises and/or journaling, breathwork, an energizing chair yoga practice, and group discussion.
