Dance Distinctive

City Ballet of Boston and Tony Williams Dance Center invite you to Dance Distinctive, a ballet performance that celebrates the unique voices and styles within the art of dance. This dynamic program blends classical elegance with contemporary stories to showcase the versatility and creativity of Boston’s incredible artists.

Ben’s Trumpet – Inspired by Rachel Isadora’s beloved children’s story, Ben’s Trumpet transforms the rhythms of jazz into movement, bringing to life the dreams of a young boy enchanted by the music of his city. This ballet is a vibrant, heartfelt celebration of music, dreams, and the joy of self-expression.

Voices from the Past – Dance Distinctive opens with Gianni Di Marco’s striking piece that bridges the classical and the contemporary.

Life in Color – Through dynamic choreography and powerful jazz poetry, Life in Color celebrates the vibrancy and complexity of the human experience.

Ginko Leaves – Choreographer Chu Ling unites Chinese Classical Dance with ballet to create an elegant exploration of classical movement. This piece is inspired by the ginkgo leaves. The Chinese associate the ginkgo with Zen, as its antiquity and golden splendor symbolize the wisdom and strength of the ancient East. Like the elegant and composed ginkgo leaf, one should savor the present moment and embrace the impermanence of life.

Airs & Dances – Inspired by Ottorino Respighi’s harmonious score, Tony Williams’ uplifiting choreography reflects the precision and elegance of classical dance.

Plus a world premiere created for City Ballet of Boston by Lorraine Chapman

Join us for an extraordinary afternoon of dance!

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture; Roger and Rachel Brunswick; and Will Hapgood and Julie Schecter.
