Black Brewing Culture
Join Boston Ujima Project in partnership with Lamplighter Brewing Co. for a virtual conversation between Black brewery owners in Eastern Massachusetts.
This conversation is moderated by James Vamboi with Kevin Merritt (Crue Brew Brewery) and Eval Silvera (Brockton Beer Co.) about the history and present state of Black folks brewing in Massachusetts, the realities of running a service industry business in the pandemic and the place a brewery has in a community.
About The Boston Ujima Project
The Boston Ujima Project is a democratic, member-run organization building cooperative business, arts and investment ecosystem in Boston, with a mission to return wealth to working class communities of color. Ujima is bringing together neighbors, workers, business owners, investors, grassroots organizers, and culture-makers, to create a community-controlled economy in our city.
About Lamplighter Brewing Co.
Lamplighter is committed to pushing the beer industry towards equity, and in response to the Movement for Black Lives uprisings this summer, we specifically committed to fighting anti-Blackness in our industry. We’re excited to share our most recent piece of this commitment: a virtual conversation where we’ll learn from Black brewery owners in Massachusetts about the joys and struggles of brewing while Black.
