8:30AM 50TH ANNIVERSARY BREAKFAST AND PROGRAM

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast (MLK Breakfast) will mark its 50th anniversary in 2020 with a multifaceted, passion-filled celebratory program of event. The MLK Breakfast will kick-off the celebration with the Dream Reception featuring conversations with dignitaries and special guests moderated by WCVB-TV CH 5. The breakfast features engaging speeches from Governor Charlie D. Baker and Mayor Martin J. Walsh with a keynote address by The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry. Bishop Curry is the Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church who delivered a rousing sermon at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. Guests will also enjoy gospel choir performances.

Our 2020 Drum Major Awardees are Marvin Gilmore and Charlotte Golar Richie. This year we also honor five individuals as Anniversary Awardees.  These five individuals exemplify excellence in their corporate and community leadership and have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Anniversary Awardees are Quincy Miller (Eastern Bank), Robert Lewis, Jr. (The Base), Lillie Searcy ( Hattie B. Cooper Community Center), more to be announced.

This year’s theme is THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES: MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER. In today’s tumultuous climate, there’s no better time than now, to reiterate the importance of his teachings and remind ourselves of the roadmap he created for all people. His divinely inspired wisdom and sacrifice struck down doors of racism, segregation and exclusion. As people, we must strive to maintain our unalienable freedoms, rights for ourselves and others, no matter their race, color or creed. For us to prosper as a community, we must celebrate, embrace and promote unity.
