Nine Roxbury studio artists selected for three-month exhibition at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center

The art collection being featured at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center starting in June showcases an eclectic mix of paintings, photographs, drawings and mixed media collages from 9 Roxbury artists.

The artists whose work were chosen to be displayed on behalf of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority’s Community Arts Program are Charles Janey, David Mynott, Discover Roxbury executive director Derek Lumpkins, Ian Dorian, Destiny Palmer, Stephen Hamilton, Chandra Dieppa Ortiz and Hakim Raquib of the African American Artists in Residency program at Northeastern University.

The artwork will be displayed through August on the second level of the Northeast side of BCEC.

A free opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on June 19 at the BCEC.

The event will feature work from other state artists and entertainment. A cash bar will be available and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

“We’re very excited to feature these talented artists from the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston in our Community Arts Program,” said James E. Rooney, executive director of the MCCA. “The art that we feature in our facilities showcases the artistic talent that is prevalent throughout the region, and is very popular with our guests.”

The MCCA created the Community Arts Program in 2007 using shared resources from the Boston Mayor’s Office of Art, Culture and Tourism: Open Studios Coalition.

The program has featured work from more than 14 different Greater Boston communities and showcased over 700 local artists at the BCEC and Hynes Convention Center since its debut.

The MCCA has hosted more than 30 public art receptions, and sold more than $65,000 worth of art to visitors of its centers.
