Jackson to hold hearing on busing middle school students

Max Cyril

District 7 City Councilor Tito Jackson is calling a hearing Monday to review the Boston Public Schools’ plans to cut bus service for 7th and 8th graders.

The hearing will be held Monday, March 24 at 12:30 p.m. in the Council’s Iannella Chamber. Co-sponsors of the hearing are councilors Matt O’Malley, Ayanna Pressley and Charles Yancey.

As part of plans to cut $107 million in the school department’s $973 million budget, Superintendent John McDonough also proposed giving 6th graders the option of an MBTA pass as well, although no one at that grade level would be refused a seat on a bus.

Members of the public are invited to testify. Those wishing to do so should arrive at least five minutes early to sign up and bring 15 copies of any written testimony or documentation.
