The Position and its Principle Responsibilities
The Associate Director of AmeriCorps is a full time position, reporting to the Director of AmeriCorps. The Associate Director is responsible for managing relationships technical assistance delivery to YouthBuild Affiliates that are AmeriCorps National Direct subgrantees and managing the programmatic aspect of a portfolio of subgrantees.

The responsibilities of the Associate Director of AmeriCorps include:

Managing technical assistance delivery to YouthBuild affiliates that are AmeriCorps National Direct subgrantees:

  • Oversee technical assistance delivery to 80 AmeriCorps National Direct subgrantees, ensuring that consistent technical assistance is provided by all portfolio managers.
  • Manage team of portfolio managers’ technical assistance to subgrantees to ensure that 100% enrollment is achieved, that highest possible education award attainment is attained, that performance measures are met, and that compliance with grant regulations and provisions is maintained.
  • Create and/or update and implement technical assistance tools, including but not limited to, webinars, conference calls, site visit and risk assessment documents and procedures, desktop monitoring tools and procedures, sample documents, manuals, training videos and website content.
  • Work with YouthBuild affiliates to ensure timely and complete submission of data. Analyze data and draft reports the Corporation for National and Community Service.
  • Gain familiarity with Federal Regulations and Provisions and act as a content expert to support a portfolio of 5-10 subgrantees in implementing AmeriCorps and maintaining compliance.
  • Provide on-site, phone, and electronic technical assistance to a portfolio of 5-10 subgrantees related to program design, achievement of goals and objectives, and required reporting.
  • Utilize existing technical assistance tools and create reports and updates on portfolio of subgrantees.

Managing direct reports:

  • Oversee the management and supervision of four YouthBuild AmeriCorps Portfolio Managers who provide technical assistance to portfolios of YouthBuild AmeriCorps programs. This will include playing integral role in interviewing, and hiring new staff, and a lead role in training new staff.
  • Act as a resource and support to team of 4 Portfolio Managers, ensuring they have relevant resources, tools, and knowledge to monitor grant implementation at their portfolio of sites.
  • Provide assistance and guidance in handling challenging subgrantee situations.


Collaborating with AmeriCorps team at YouthBuild USA:

  • Analyze subgrantee data and gather AmeriCorps team quarterly to review data and significant findings.
  • Assist in the planning and manage the implementation of YouthBuild USA AmeriCorps conferences – AmeriCorps Management Conference, New Site AmeriCorps Management Conference, and other conferences.
  • Support AmeriCorps evaluation efforts by participating in planning meetings and leading implementation of evaluation tools with subgrantees.
  • Assist in grant proposal preparation and subgrantee selection for annual continuation application and every three years for reapplications.

Participating in AmeriCorps Department and YouthBuild USA wide activities:

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of other activities that strengthen the AmeriCorps team as assigned.
  • Travel to YouthBuild programs, multi-site gatherings, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of YouthBuild USA wide activities as requested.

Desired Skills, Characteristics, and Experience
We are looking for a highly intelligent, results-driven team player with demonstrated experience in multi-site program implementation, superior judgement, and clear communication style.

The ideal Associate Director will have:

  • At least five years of program and/or management experience, preferably in organizations that have a network of programs/affiliates or comparable experience;
  • At least five years of experience providing telephone and/or in-person customer service;
  • At least five years of supervisory experience, including experience hiring and training new staff;
  • At least a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree is a plus;
  • Experience with AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA, and/or the Corporation for National and Community Service a plus;
  • Experience with running an opportunity youth focused workforce development / education focused program a plus;
  • A record of accomplishment working in diverse, entrepreneurial work environments;
  • A demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, tactically, and creatively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability and comfort with multiple long-term projects having different foci and deadlines;
  • Experience with program assessment, including an understanding of survey development, data interpretation, and the use of data to improve program practices;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A customer service orientation; and
  • Ability to be flexible and a sense of humor.

Compensation
YouthBuild USA offers competitive salary and benefits, including health coverage, a 401(k) savings plan, life insurance, and disability benefits. The salary range is will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
