Boston College High School is proud to announce that The James E. Cotter ‘55 Courage Award, presented to a member of the BC High community in recognition of courage in the face of adversity, tenacious spirit, and force of will, was awarded to the Honorable Serge Georges Jr., ‘88. Georges was also recently named to the BC High Board of Directors.
After graduating BC High, Serge went on to study English at Boston College, and then studied Law at Suffolk University, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1996. He became an experienced trial attorney, concentrating in civil litigation, criminal defense, and matters involving professional licensure and liability. Georges successfully defended all types of criminal cases in District, Superior Court, and Federal Court. Serge returned to Suffolk in 1999 as an adjunct professor of evidence, trial advocacy, and professional responsibility.
He has dutifully helped shape the next generation of lawyers for the past twenty years. Serge was elected partner at Barron and Stadfield in 2009. He continued to be a rising star in the realm of law and was sworn in as a judge of the Boston Municipal Court in November of 2013, serving the Boston community with honor ever since. He is President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and secretary of the Black Judges Council. Judge Georges is a man of courage who was born and raised in Boston, and fights for his city with conscience and compassion every single day.
