State Treasurer Steven Grossman recently announced the appointment of Enrique Zuniga as the new executive director of the Massachusetts Water Pollution Abatement Trust. The trust, which is overseen by the Treasurer’s Office, provides subsidized loans to cities and towns to undertake clean water and drinking water infrastructure projects.
Zuniga, an MBA graduate of the Yale School of Management, comes to the trust from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), where he was the director of quality assurance since April 2005.
At the MSBA, Zuniga oversaw the first compilation of the statewide “Needs Survey” for all 1,820 schools in the Commonwealth and helped draft regulations and procedures to prioritize reconstruction and reimbursement of projects.
Zuniga is originally from Mexico, where he received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and was the co-owner and director of a residential development and construction company. Zuniga is the first Latino American to serve as executive director of the Massachusetts Water Pollution Abatement Trust.
In his spare time, Zuniga is an adjunct professor of construction management at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He also serves as the treasurer and board member of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción and the ETC Development Corporation, both Latino nonprofits that develop and manage affordable housing.
