Gloria Harris Cater
Roxbury Community College recently announced the appointment of Gloria Harris Cater as its new dean of Division of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Cater’s extensive experience in higher education includes 18 years as a nurse practitioner and director of health services at Wellesley College. She has served as a faculty member at both Roxbury Community College and Simmons College, where she was the first director of the Dotson Bridge and mentoring program that was designed to increase the success of students of color in the school’s nursing program.
A lifelong Boston resident, cater was born in the South End and raised in Roxbury. She graduated from Girl’s Latin School and received her associate degree in nursing from Northeastern University and her bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Cater earned a master’s degree in nursing from University of Lowell and a Ph.D. in nursing and health policy from UMass Boston.
An ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Cater serves as an associate minister for health and wellness at the Charles Street AME Church in Roxbury.
