Gov. Patrick appoints new members to the RCC board of trustees

Governor Deval Patrick appointed five new members to the Roxbury Community College (RCC) Board of Trustees and reappointed one current member of the Board whose term had expired.  

Patrick also named Kathy Taylor, an experienced businesswoman, as the new Chair of the RCC Board to replace Anita Crawford, the CEO of Roxbury Comprehensive Health Center.

The five new trustees appointed this week are Taylor, Michael A. Curry, Mark Culliton, Glynn Lloyd and Jeffrey O. Greenberg. Steven Tompkins, a member of the RCC Board since 2010 has been reappointed for a second term.    

“Roxbury Community College is a vital part of our public higher education system here in the Commonwealth and a pillar of the community in Roxbury,” said Governor Patrick.  “I am confident that this group of individuals, with Ms. Taylor at the helm, will successfully chart a path of excellence for the students, faculty and leadership at the college.”  

Taylor is the executive director of the Efficacy Institute, an organization dedicated to school improvement and turnaround through giving children the tools and supports they need to achieve high standards in school. Ms. Taylor previously served as associate vice president of community development at Road Scholar.

She has also served as senior director of corporate development at the WGBH Educational Foundation and senior account executive at WBZ-TV.  Ms. Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Boston College, a Master of Education degree from Lesley College and a Certificate in Advanced Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

 Michael A. Curry is the legislative affairs director and senior counsel for the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, and is a member of the Disparities Action Network (DAN), a statewide coalition that works to reduce health disparities through legislative advocacy and education. Mr. Curry previously served as a senior policy advisor in the Corporate Affairs Division of Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts. He has been an active member of the NAACP for 15 years and for the last year, has served as president of the organization’s Boston branch.  

Curry attended Macalester College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications and Journalism and the New England School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctor degree.  Mr. Curry is filling the seat previously held by John Cruz, whose term has expired.

Mark Culliton is the CEO of College Bound Dorchester, a non-profit organization focused on individual and community-wide social change.  Prior to his time at College Bound Dorchester, Mr. Culliton previously served as the vice president of business development at Lighthouse Academies, Inc. and as COO of Building Educated Leaders for Life, an after-school and summer enrichment organization.  

He attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Yale School of Management where he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration. Mr. Culliton is filling the second of two seats currently vacant on the Board.  

Glynn Lloyd is the founder and chief executive officer of City Fresh Foods, Inc. in Dorchester, a company that produces high-quality, economical meals from a variety of ethnic cuisines. Mr. Lloyd previously served as the G.E.D. coordinator at the Log School in Dorchester, where he oversaw academic training and entrepreneurship programs for young people in Dorchester and the surrounding communities.  

Lloyd also participated in the Teach for America program, working in classrooms in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. He has served on the boards at Four Corners Main Streets, Dorchester and The Food Project, among others, and is the sitting vice-chair of the board at Project Bread. Mr. Lloyd attended Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Dr. Jeffery O. Greenberg is an associate medical director for the Brigham and Women’s Physician Organization, where he leads a number of projects to improve the quality and value of care that the hospital’s physicians deliver.  He also practices Primary Care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Advanced Primary Care Associates at South Huntington, the first Brigham and Women’s Hospital practice built as a Patient-Centered Medical Home.  

Dr. Greenberg attended Brown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine degree and Master degree in Business Administration and Health Care Management.  

Steven Tompkins has over 25 years of supervisory and management experience in public relations, marketing, communications, promotions and media production. He now serves as the chief of external affairs for the Suffolk County Sherriffs Department and is currently on leave to work for the Elizabeth Warren’s U.S. Senate campaign as senior adviser.

Tompkins has previously served as the director of marketing and public affairs at the Dimock Center, and as a press liaison for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  He attended Boston College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, and the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy.

Tompkins has served as a member of the Roxbury Board of Trustees since 2010 and is being reappointed to the Board, as his current term has expired.   

“The Governor has chosen a first class cohort of trustees and Board leadership,” said Education Secretary Paul Reville. “These members arrive at crucial time for this institution and we will give them our full measure of support in every way possible to ensure their success.”
