National cable organization seeking diverse students for networking, scholarships The Walter Katz Foundation is seeking young people to attend their third annual Millennials Program on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 during the National Cable and Telecommunications Association’s Cable Show at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The networking program is free for female students and students of color. Participating students become eligible for three school book scholarships simply by registering for the event. The one-day program is designed to educate young people about the cable industry by exposing them to business opportunities in telecommunications and digital media. Women and students of color now enrolled in two- or four-year, accredited institutions of higher learning are encouraged to participate. Participants will be eligible for a first prize award of $500.

Boston NAACP opens new office in Roxbury On Saturday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Boston NAACP will officially open its new office, located at 330 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Roxbury, Mass. — within the Mall of Roxbury.  Branch leadership will join branch members, elected officials, community activists and business leaders to celebrate this opening, which includes a ribbon cutting ceremony. The journey to launch a new Boston NAACP office began a year ago when the branch approached the owners of the Mall of Roxbury about creating visible, more accessible office space. The new office will allow staff and volunteers to receive discrimination complaints and serve as the organization’s hub for anti-violence and voter engagement campaigns.   Once new space was identified, the Boston NAACP sought the services of a construction company to donate materials and labor in building the office.  CWC Builders, Inc. in Newton generously stepped up to perform construction.  “We are extremely fortunate to have bold, philanthropic business leaders, like Victor Leon of the Mall of Roxbury and Bruce Polishook of CWC Builders,” said Michael Curry, president of the Boston NAACP. “They answered our call for assistance and, as a result, positioned this branch to continue the work we have been doing for over 101 years.”
