In the news: Segun Idowu

Banner

In October, the board of directors of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) announced that Segun Idowu had been chosen to join the organization as its permanent executive director.

Idowu, just recently a candidate for State Representative in Hyde Park, is the co-founder of the Boston Police Camera Action Team and a Vice President with the Boston NAACP. A Dorchester native, Idowu is both a 2007 graduate of Boston Latin Academy and a 2012 graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse College. He was recently acknowledged as a “2018 Influential Millenial of Color.”

Idowu’s tenure as executive director comes as BECMA looks to ramp up its dual campaigns of creating lucrative job opportunities for communities of color and spurring greater investment in minority-owned local businesses.

The mission of BECMA is to advance the economic wellbeing of black businesses, organizations that serve the black community and black residents of Massachusetts. With a growing membership of businesses, students, and individuals, it has successfully expanded access to development opportunities and influenced legislation to increase local investment in businesses of color.
