Casting search for ‘MasterChef’ Season 10 comes to Boston this weekend
As chefs Gordon Ramsey and Aaron Sanchez and restaurateur Joe Bastianich continue to turn up the heat for amateur chefs battling it out on Season 9 of MasterChef, season 10 auditions are underway.
The MasterChef casting team is holding an open casting call in Boston on Sept. 15 at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Home cooks who do not work as professional chefs or have ever worked as professional chefs are welcome to bring a prepared dish that shows off their personality and cooking skills to the audition on Saturday.
Cooks will be given three minutes to plate their dish for the judges to taste, but there will be no kitchen to cook or warm up their food.
The Banner spoke with MasterChef Casting Director Michelle Mock about what the judges will be looking for in their search for Season 10 contestants.
Who will be judging the dishes at the MasterChef Season 10 casting call in Boston?
Michelle Mock: Season 10 is going to be a big season and for the first time ever, Gordon Ramsey is sending his very own culinary team out there to judge and taste the food. Contestants will be able to talk one-on-one with them about their passion and what they know about cooking.
Besides culinary talent, what else will the judges be looking for?
MM: We’re looking for people who are passionate, who take home cooking to a whole new level. Boston was amazing for us when we went a few years back, and we had a lot of great potential home cooks. We feel that Boston might be holding the next great chef.
We’re looking for someone who really believes they can be the next MasterChef, and that’s why we’re going [there] — because Bostonians always show grit, they show that they’re strong and that they’ll do anything they set their minds to.
How many people are expected to audition on Saturday?
MM: The sky’s the limit. When we went to Boston last time, there were several hundred people out there. The line got cut off at 6 p.m. but we stayed pretty late to talk to everybody because we wanted to make sure that each and every person that came out was seen. On Saturday, we’ll stay until the very last home cook has been seen.
What is the best part about Boston’s food scene?
MM: Boston has a great food scene, that’s why we’re always coming back. You guys always top food lists and have great cuisine in all genres. People finally have gotten to know this and that’s why they go visit. I do love the New England Clam Chowder!
