Martin Baker has been appointed the new financial advisor and director of financial planning for Canby Financial Advisors.
Baker joined Canby Financial Advisors in April 2025. Before that he spent the last six years as an advanced planning consultant and manager of advanced planning for Commonwealth Financial Network. He has taught, consulted and provided educational resources that helped hundreds of financial advisors learn to deliver the best service to their clients.
“My mission is to partner with individuals, families and small-business owners to help them realize their vision for retirement, their family mission and their legacies through highly personalized financial planning,” he said.
The center of his focus is a commitment to help clients quantify their financial goals and aspirations while providing them with the information and guidance they need to make informed decisions to simplify their financial lives.
“We’re thrilled to have Martin join our team,” said managing partner Christopher Borden. “He embodies Canby Financial’s commitment to helping individuals and families address their financial challenges and opportunities through each stage of their lives.”
Baker has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Bentley University and has earned designations as a certified financial planner professional and a certified exit planning advisor. He has 20 years of experience as a financial advisor at UBS, private wealth relationship manager at Fidelity Investments and a manager of advanced planning at Commonwealth Financial Network.
“In addition to working with existing clients and bringing new clients to Canby Financial, Martin will also serve as the company’s director of financial planning. This is a critical role, as his in-depth financial planning knowledge will enhance the guidance all Canby Financial advisors can provide to our clients and help ensure that everyone at the firm continues to remain in the forefront of ever-evolving financial planning techniques and technologies,” Borden said.
Baker lives in Chelmsford and when off work, he can be seen playing golf and cheering his kids on during their basketball, track and volleyball games. He has a strong love for hockey since he started playing at a young age which landed him a role on the roster at Bentley University’s hockey team as a forward.
