Monday, Jan. 20 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a celebration and honoring of the work done by the famed civil rights leader. Organizations around Boston are offering free museum admission, family-friendly activities and live performances for the occasion.

Embrace Honors MLK

When: Sunday, Jan. 19

Info: This elegant gala honoring MLK has a fun spin, guests are encouraged to wear their finest formal attire but paired with their coolest sneakers. At the event local leaders will be honored in an aware ceremony followed by a headline performance.

Museum of Fine Arts Boston MLK Day Open House

When: Monday, Jan. 20
Where: 465 Huntington Ave.
Info: Enjoy free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on MLK Day, as well as a robust schedule of programming that includes live art making, panel discussions, a job fair, gallery tours and live music.

Crossing the Deep Concert by the Handel & Haydn Society

Info: “Crossing the Deep” delves into the parallels between music by Handel and spirituals written and performed by enslaved people. Many of these pieces were written at the same time and are based on the same biblical texts to very different effects.
