Attorney Michael Curry was recently promoted to Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (the Mass League), which represents over 50 community health centers and over 988,000 patients across the state. Curry began his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, where he worked for 16 years, including 10 years in the company’s Corporate Affairs Division. In 2008 he joined the Mass League, responsible for state and federal legislative affairs. His promotion came as part of a major restructuring of the nonprofit. He now leads the newly formed Government Affairs and Public Policy Division. Curry is also the Immediate Past President of the Boston NAACP and member of the National NAACP’s Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. He currently serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center and the Massachusetts Non-profit Network. He is a frequent guest commentator on WBUR’s Radio Boston, Boston Public Radio WGBH with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan, and New England Cable News’ (NECN’s) The Take with Sue O’Connell. Community health centers were born out of the Modern Civil Rights over 52 years ago with the founding of the first two community health centers in the nation in the Columbia Point section of Dorchester and Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Community health centers have remained committed to their mission of providing accessible, affordable and high-quality health care for all. As a child growing up in Lenox Street Housing Development, Curry received his care at Whittier Street Neighborhood Health Center, and later at Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center. He often says, “Where I’m from keeps where I am in perspective.”
