Robert Bridgeman will be honored by Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) later this month for his work in the field of youth mentoring.

Bridgeman, a director of programs for the Phillips Brooks House Association at Harvard University, will receive an award at the station’s annual Backyard BBQ fundraiser, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. Each year at the event, the station honors individuals who have dedicated themselves to working on social issues, both in Cambridge and beyond.

Joining Bridgeman among this year’s honorees will be Sue Hyde, an activist for equal rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and George Metzger, president of HMFH Architects, who will be recognized for his years of community service and for involving local residents in the design of housing, educational and community facilities.

Born and raised in Cambridge, Bridgeman has spent his career working to improve opportunities for the city’s youth.

As a director of programs for Harvard’s Phillips Brooks House Association, he has helped support numerous mentoring programs, including the Cambridge After School Program, Cambridge One to One, the Cambridge Youth Enrichment Program, the David Walker Scholars Program, the Environmental Action Committee, the Harvard Youth Leadership Institute and Youth Recreation, among others.

He has also facilitated workshops on mentoring, youth development and classroom management, and has a strong passion for the performing arts.

In addition to the awards ceremony, CCTV’s Backyard BBQ also raises funds for the station’s youth program. The Teen Media Program trains Cambridge teens in media production and career-related skills.
