The Boy Scouts Spirit of Adventure Council has appointed Komba Lamina of Lynnfield, who has specialized in bringing the scouting experience to underserved communities, as its new chief diversity officer. In his new role, Lamina will be responsible for strengthening diversity within the youth development organization at an exciting time, as girls of all ages were recently welcomed to the program and it is seeing increased participation of families from a wider variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds.
For the past three years, Lamina has served the Boy Scouts as the Urban Scouting and Exploring executive. Heading the Boy Scouts of America’s urban outreach initiative within the Spirit of Adventure Council region, Lamina brought Scouting to five new urban communities, grew membership through partnerships with national organizations, and organized the successful American Cultures event at New England Base Camp, hosting Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief of Police William Gross as featured speaker.
In this newly-created position, Lamina will support new initiatives to bring scouting to more inner-city neighborhoods in Boston, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Salem, and other Massachusetts cities and towns between Quincy and the New Hampshire border.
Before working with the Boy Scouts, Lamina served as a policy analyst for the Bosnian Community Center for Resource Development in Lynn, where he published articles highlighting the issues afflicting both domestic and international refugees. He is also the co-founder of the African Bridge Network, which provides mentors for new graduates, workshops for newly arrived African immigrants, and networking events for African professionals.
A graduate of Salem State University with a degree in Political Science, Lamina resides in Lynnfield with his wife Isatta and son Khai.
