Angela Johnson, Senior Director of Philanthropy at Year Up United, was recently named Chair of the Board of Directors for Old North Illuminated, a non-profit organization whose primary focus is preserving Boston’s Old North Church Historic Site. Johnson, whose background is primarily in fundraising, received her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College with a double major in English Literature and Psychology. After Wellesley, she held multiple positions throughout the Commonwealth’s non-profit fundraising sector, including the Assistant Director of the Harvard Business School and Law Funds. While at Harvard, she also served as an instructor for their Summer School Writing Program. Johnson has overseen several annual fund and special gift departments at various institutions throughout Massachusetts. Her substantial contributions and fundraising efforts have spanned over two decades, and her reputation in fundraising precedes her. Angela is also very involved in philanthropy on a personal level. She serves on the board of two non-profits and has been involved with organizations such as Molly’s Breakfast Roundtables, the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office, Diversity & Community Outreach Council, and The Lenny Zakim Fund. Recently, Angela was recognized as one of Boston Business Journal’s ‘People on the Move in Boston.’ Throughout her years of experience, Angela has raised millions of dollars.

In an interview with the Network for Fundraisers of Color she said, “I love the power of the philanthropic community to change the lives of many and the power of pooled resources. This sector is ever evolving and finding new ways to bring people and resources together. I am inspired by the impact that I have been able to have on the lives of so many through the work that I do.”
