Boston native Dr. Michelle Miller Groves has been recently appointed as the Roxbury Cultural District’s new operations consultant. Currently, she is also the president and founder of her own marketing firm, More Than Marketing, a role which she will continue in.
Miller Groves is a Bostonian through and through. She is a graduate of Boston Latin School and received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Suffolk University with a minor in advertising.
Previously, Miller Groves worked as an adjunct professor and lecturer teaching marketing and communications for over a decade at several universities in the Commonwealth, including Northeastern University, New England Institute of Art, and her alma mater, Suffolk University.
In 2013, Miller Groves launched Social Good Marketing, earning her the Boston Impact Initiative’s Social Impact Prize. Now, she has transitioned to her current position as founder and president of her firm More than Marketing, supporting clients throughout the Greater Boston area.
As operations consultant for the Roxbury Cultural District, Miller Groves will continue to assist the organization in bolstering their mission of identifying and developing artistic and cultural assets throughout the Roxbury community and helping them grow into staples of the city.
The mission of the Roxbury Cultural District is to identify, recognize and amplify Roxbury’s cultural assets and establish the tools, strategies and resources that elevate the community of Roxbury as a living repository of arts and cultural expression – past, present and future.
The four main goals of the district are to activate assets and market community programming; promote economic development; activate and connect the built environment and build an effective sustainability governance structure.
In May of 2017, the Massachusetts Cultural Council approved the Roxbury Cultural District designation. It includes Nubian Square and John Eliot Square.
