Andrew Agwunobi, MD, MBA, has been appointed executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer of UConn Health. His appointment marks a return to the academic medical center, where he held the same role from 2014 to 2022. For the past two years, he has served as president of Home Solutions for Humana. Previously, he served briefly as interim president of the University of Connecticut, making him the first person of color to hold the position. A pediatrician by training, Agwunobi received his MD from the University of Jos in 1989 and completed his residency at the Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He went on to earn an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001. In 2020, the Hartford Business Journal recognized Agwunobi as one of Hartford’s “Power 25 in Healthcare.” In 2007, Modern Healthcare named Agwunobi one of the “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives” in the U.S.
