Most citizens are concerned only with casting a vote for the presidential candidate of their choice. The average voter knows little about the process established by the Constitution to record and compile votes. However, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack may be on the verge of disclosing an effort by Trump allies to block the vote in seven states won by Joe Biden by using fake electors who submitted false certificates for Trump.
The committee has subpoenaed 14 individuals from Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin who have executed and delivered as official, false Electoral College certificates. The objective of the investigation will be to determine whether the fake electors had criminal intent and what individuals strategized the effort to defraud the 2020 election results in favor of Trump.
The alternative electors met on Dec. 14, 2020 and submitted bogus slates of Electoral College votes for Trump and then sent the false Electoral College certifications to Congress. The Jan. 6 insurrection was supposed to create an aura of confusion that would require Congress to take action that resulted in the appointment of Trump as the 2020 winner.
